Multi-GeV cascaded laser wakefield acceleration in a hybrid capillary discharge waveguide

Abstract Based on a 6 cm-long two-segment hybrid capillary discharge waveguide, multi-GeV electron beam with energy up to 3.2 GeV and 9.7% rms spread was achieved in cascaded laser wakefield acceleration scheme, powered by an on-target 210 TW pulse. The trapped the first segment via ionization-induced injection, then seeded into second for further acceleration. long-distance stable guiding of pulse suppression dark current inside second-segment played important role generation high-energy beams, as demonstrated quasi-three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations.
